Point Source Productions supplied the lighting and rigging equipment
for The Heroes Ball which took place at London’s Hurlingham
Club in September. The evening took the form of dinner for 800 VIP guests followed by a
band and a Charity Auction which aimed to raise £250,000 for Help
for Heroes – the charity formed in 2007 to raise money for the
rehabilitation of wounded ex-servicemen across the Armed Forces.
Lighting
Designer Jono Kenyon was brought in to design the lighting for the
band, the charity auction and the general dinner states, and had the
added responsibility of acting as Production Manager for the
evening. The brief was to keep the costs as low as possible
since all funding would come directly from Help for Heroes
coffers, yet to produce a stylish event suitable for the large
number of dignitaries attending. The lighting was designed to play a
significant part in creating the kind of atmosphere and environment
which might encourage guests to donate generously to the cause.
Kenyon approached Point Source Productions Ltd to provide the
equipment for the evening. “Point Source Productions was very
generous in its provision of equipment for the Help for Heroes
event,” says Kenyon. “As always, the high quality of both their
equipment and their service played a vital part in the final result
of the evening,” Kenyon used a starcloth backdrop and Martin MAC
300s to light the band on stage, whilst a combination of Martin MAC
550 and MAC 600 provided the ambient dinner lighting. Lighting and
starcloth were rigged on Litec QX30S truss and controlled from a Hog
II console, all of which came from Point Source Production’s hire
stock.
“The
responses to the evening from guests were immensely positive,” says
Kenyon.
Chief Executive of the Hurlingham Club, Rear Admiral (Retd) Niall
Kilgour, remarked that “The… organisation and attention to
detail set the scene for a very memorable occasion. The atmosphere
was terrific.” Whilst General Sir Richard Dannatt, Chief of the
General Staff claimed, “…it was so brilliantly organised and
executed…the plan was both inspired and sound and the way it was all
carried out was stylish, confident and flawlessly delivered.”
The evening was a huge success which far exceeded expectations by
raising a final total of £1.6 million. Bryn Parry, Founder of
Help for Heroes, thanked everyone involved in The Heroes Ball
by saying: “I cannot properly express my admiration for what you all
achieved … it was flawless and a superb night. Congratulations and
thanks from everyone at Help for Heroes and on behalf of everyone
who we will be able to help with your funds.”
