1 Pyrotechnic special effects can be extremely dangerous if misused
and should only be used by competent adult persons following the manufacturer's
instructions fully and with care.
2. Always remove the key and put it in your pocket before plugging in the
controller. Keep it in your pocket during set up and loading. Only put it in the
controller when you are to fire the devices.
3. Ensure that suitable fire fighting equipment is to hand and that personnel
are trained in its correct use.
4. Ensure that a suitable first aid kit is available and that personnel are
trained in its use.
5. There must be no smoking, naked flames or any source of ignition in
the vacinity of pyrotechnic materials at any time.
6. All pyrotechnic devices must be sited so that they are clear of and cannot
set fire to adjacent materials, fabrics, costumes and scenery.
7. All pyrotechnic devices must be sited so that there is no possibility of
injury to persons.
8. Only approved controllers and firing boxes or pods from a reputable
manufacturer are to be used. Home made or adapted firing systems are not
permitted.
9. Ensure that the pyrotechnic operator sites the control box so that they
have a direct view of the devices at all times.
10. Only take sufficient pyrotechnic devices for each performance from the
main store.
Do not store excess material on stage.
11. One person should be made responsible for the setting up and firing of
pyrotechnics.
12. Only pre-packaged pyrotechnic devices from a reputable manufacturer will
be permitted. The use of loose powders is not permissible.
13. Use only the smallest device available to achieve the desired effect. If
there are any doubts about the effect produced contact the manufacturer for
advice before use.
